Community Loses Long-time Clay Educator

Carol Ann Sparks Chandler, 65, of Belleview, Florida, died on August 27, 2018, at her home after a brief battle with cancer. Carol was born on January 13, 1953, in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Sparks and Olive Lemaster Sparks, as well as an infant brother, Robert Craig Sparks. She is survived by her husband, Timothy Chandler of Belleview, Florida, and two children, Brandy (John) Wyatt of Columbus, Ohio, and Jeffrey (Danielle) Chandler of Belleview, Florida, and many beloved friends and family members. Carol was a 1971 graduate of Clay High School, and a graduate of the Ohio University. She taught elementary school for 45 years, the majority of which was spent in Kindergarten at Rosemount Primary School in Portsmouth, Ohio. Carol also taught Kindergarten from 2001-2018 at South Ocala Elementary School in Ocala Florida. She received numerous honors for her work in education. Carol was named a Marion County, Florida Golden Apple Teacher in 2009, a Diamond Oil 2012 Top Teacher, and in 2018 South Ocala honored her as a Master Teacher. She previously taught Children’s Church at Grace Baptist Church in Belleview, Florida, where she was a dedicated member of the congregation.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Major Montgomery officiating. Burial will be at Universal Cemetery in Rubyville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
