PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Men's Soccer) – Several members of the Shawnee State men's soccer program took out of their busy schedules to give back to the Portsmouth community in teaching the young students at Clay Elementary School about character.  This occurred at the school's after-school program on Monday.

The aforementioned program, which consisted of approximately 70 K-5 students, were visited by members of the SSU squad as the team spoke to the children about the five core values that make up the NAIA's Champions of Character.

On the afternoon, Martyn Sayer (JR/Liverpool, England) lectured about integrity as well as servant leadership, Tristan Smith (JR/Rocky River, Ohio) spoke about the importance of responsibility, Dylan Stevens (SR/Canal Winchester, Ohio) discussed respect, andAvery Patton (SR/Pickerington, Ohio) stressed the meaning of leadership. Mauricio Solis(JR/San Jose, Costa Rica), Chris Wiget (SR/Piketon, Ohio), and Joe Lamont (JR/Edinburgh, Scotland) were also present at the mall

After speaking about how they instill the five core values in their daily lives, the team answered questions about the importance of academics in addition to the game of soccer, their backgrounds, and the effort that is required to become a collegiate athlete.
