Congrats, Clay HS girls' basketball team!
The team received the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches' Association's All-Ohio Academic Team Award. The team GPA was 3.98. It was the best for the OHSBCA.
The team/school will receive a plaque from the OHSBCA and the team will receive recognition and a pizza party courtesy of the OHSBCA and the Ohio Army National Guard.

Clay Pre-K and Kindergarten registration will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, from 9:00am-11:30am, 12:30-3:00pm, and 6:00pm-8:00pm.
Please bring your child to the registration for readiness screening (Kindergarten) and to meet the teachers.
Clay Elementary (K-5) students participated in the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Math-a-thon in March.
Congratulations to all the CHS students who had artwork accepted to the 2016 Scioto County Visually Literate High School Art Show.
Abbie Harris, senior; Katie March, senior; Hayleigh Barney, junior; Savannah Brown, senior; Hunnter Adams, sophomore; and Savannah Moore, sophomore, all had work accepted. Savannah Brown had two pieces accepted.
The show is being held at Shawnee State University in the Appleton Gallery starting May 12 and ending May 19. The awards' reception will be held May 19 at 5:30 pm.
Mrs. Tiffany Moore is the Clay HS art instructor.
“What does it mean to be Clay Panthers?”
This question was presented to students in the Clay Local School District before the break. Each grade was given one of the letters from “Clay Panthers” and asked to select a word that answered the question. We are proud to present what our students have developed along with the grade level that provided the excellent word.

Clay HS Homecoming 2015-2016
The Clay High School Homecoming for 2015-2016 was held on Saturday, February 6, 2016. The festivities took place between the junior varsity and varsity basketball games. The Clay Panthers hosted the Ironton Saint Joseph Flyers. “When Dreams Come True” was the theme for the night.
Congratulations to the members of the Clay Band who were selected for the Scioto County Honors Band.
Alex Musser, Madison Nigh, Savannah Moore, Katie Marsh, Grant Hempill, Garrett Stone, Levi Nelson, Jimmy Madden, and Ian Grimm were selected from the high school. Trinity Ketchell, Ethan Sanford, and Christopher Dean were selected from the junior high. Miss Maggard is the Clay band director.
Congrats to Emily Clausing for qualifying for the Regional Spelling Bee! The Clay Middle School Spelling Bee was held Thursday, January 7, 2016, in the Clay HS/MS Library, and the Clay Elementary School Spelling Bee was held on Friday, January 15, 2016.
Rachel Cooper, daughter of Brian and Janet Cooper of Rosemount, signed a letter of intent to play softball at Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, KY. Joining Rachel for the signing was her mother and father as well as Nathan Hall, ALC softball coach; Todd Warnock, CHS principal; Jason Gearheart, Clay softball coach; and Mark Rose, Clay athletic director. Rachel is a senior member of the Clay softball team. Alice Lloyd College athletics competes with other regional colleges and universities in the NCCAA.
Clay Junior-Senior High School held its National Honor Society Induction on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, in the high school cafetorium. Four new students were inducted into Clay’s National Honor Society.
The new members inducted were Cole Gilliland, son of Craig and Melanie Gilliland of Rosemount; James Arthur Madden, son of Danny and Lisa Madden of Portsmouth; Ava L. McCleese, daughter of Chris and April McCleese of Lucasville; and Alaina Stowers, daughter of Susan Runyon and Ryan Stowers of Rosemount.
The Clay community mourns the loss of Elizabeth (Blevins) Swayne, a 1990 graduate of Clay High School. Our hearts go out to the Swayne and Blevins families and to all those who knew and loved Liz.
The Clay Schools Legacy Fund will create a scholarship fund in memory of Elizabeth.
Donations to the fund can be made on the Scioto Foundation website -www.sciotofoundation.org. Donate online under the Quick Links menu on the bottom left of the home page. Once there, select UCAN (Clay Schools Legacy Scholarship Fund) then type Elizabeth (Blevins) Swayne in the memo line and complete the form.
Checks can also be made out to the Clay Alumni Association and mailed to Charles Leonard in memory of Elizabeth (Blevins) Swayne. Mr. Leonard's address is 6978 Pearce Lane, Canal Winchester, OH 43110.
Aaron Keyser, a Clay senior, signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Shawnee State University on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. Aaron is the son of Paul and Loretta Keyser of Portsmouth. Aaron is joined by his parents, Doug Ledingham (Clay's assistant soccer coach), Mark Trapp (Clay's soccer coach and SSU assistant), Ron Goodson (Coach, SSU), Mark Rose (athletic administrator, Clay HS), and Todd Warnock (Principal, Clay HS).
The new Clay Panther (Discount) Cards 2016 are now available. These cards are good until December 31, 2016. The cards are $10 and feature many discounts.
The Clay Elementary Science Fair was held Wednesday, December 2, 2015.
CLAY STUDENT PRESENTS AT 57TH ANNUAL APS PLASMA PHYSICS CONFERENCE IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA.
Ava McCleese, a junior at Clay High School, presented a poster session on “The Diagnosing of Plasmas using Spectroscopy and Imaging on Proto-MPEX” at the 57th Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society, Division of Plasma Physics on November 17, 2015, in Savannah, GA; Exhibit Hall A at 2 pm. Ava’s ARC/ORAU mentor was Theodore Biewer, with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
