Clay Inducts Six New Members into National Honor Society

Clay Junior-Senior High School held its National Honor Society Induction on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in the high school cafetorium.  Six new students were inducted into Clay’s National Honor Society.

The new members include Lexie Gilliland, daughter of Craig and Melanie Gilliland of Rosemount; Hailey Hinch, daughter of Jessica Fitzer of Portsmouth; Bobby Madden, son of Danny and Lisa Madden of Portsmouth; Mason Pelphrey, son of Ben and Cindy Wireman of Portsmouth and Randy and Karen Pelphrey of West Portsmouth; Aaron Phipps, a son of Rick and Cindy Phipps of Rosemount; and Conner Phipps, son of Steve and Kendal Phipps of Portsmouth.

The current NHS members included Jessica Moore, Katie Redding, Michael Schmidt, Mark Shaffer, and Emily Widdowson.

The speaker for the afternoon’s ceremony was Miss Lyndsey Redding, a 2003 NHS inductee and a 2004 graduate (valedictorian) of Clay High School.  Lyndsey is also a 2009 graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in biology; she is currently employed by the university.  She is the daughter of John and Jane Redding of Rosemount. 

Members of the chapter are selected based on the criteria of character, leadership, scholarship, and service; and members must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be considered.  Members are involved in many activities and service projects throughout the year.  The adviser for the Clay National Honor Society is Mr. Mark Rose.  The Clay National Honor Society Chapter is sponsored by the New Boston Kiwanis.
