Clay National Honor Society Induction 2014-2015

 

 

 

 

 

 

Clay Junior-Senior High School held its National Honor Society Induction on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, in the high school cafetorium.  Six new students were inducted into Clay’s National Honor Society.

The new members include Abigail Harris, daughter of Steve and Angel Harris of Rosemount; Bailey Hartlage, daughter of Steve and Donna Hartlage of Portsmouth; Gabrielle Hickman, daughter of Jill Tipton of Rosemount and Chad Hickman of Minford; Levi Nelson, son of Joe and Garnett Nelson of Lucasville; and Cassandra Shumaker and Emily Shumaker, daughters of Robert and Jennifer Shumaker of Portsmouth.

The current NHS members included Lexie Gilliland, Aaron Phipps, and Conner Phipps.

The speaker for the afternoon’s ceremony was Mr. Chris Shaffer, a 1997 NHS inductee and a 1998 graduate of Clay High School.  Chris received his undergraduate degree at the United States Military Academy at West Point, and he is a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He then received his MBA from Ohio Dominican University. Before joining the staff at Shawnee State University, he was part of Governor Strickland’s staff.  Chris is the son of Bill and Beth Shaffer of Rosemount. 

Members of the chapter are selected based on the criteria of character, leadership, scholarship, and service; and members must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be considered.  Members are involved in many activities and service projects throughout the year.  The advisor for the Clay National Honor Society is Mr. Mark Rose.  The Clay National Honor Society Chapter is sponsored by the New Boston Kiwanis.
