Students Earn Superior Rating at State Science Fair

Ethan Sanford and Claire Stanford recently completed their tour and participation at science fairs this year by competing at the State Science Fair held on the campus of The Ohio State University on May 16, 2015.  Ethan and Claire's project scored an average 48 out of a possible 50 points, thus earning a "Superior" rating for their efforts.

Their science fair journey started at the school level.  They won the Best Overall Project Award at the Clay Local School District Science Fair and received a prize of $100.  They then earned a Superior rating at the Scioto County Science Fair ($300) as well as at the District 14 Science Day held on March 21, 2015, at Shawnee State University.  To be eligible for the state science fair, students must achieve a superior rating at their District Science Day.

Their project was titled "Cold Water Detergents:  Do They Work as Well in Cold Water as Regular Detergents Do in Hot Water?"  The project centered around the use of cold water detergents that are specifically designed to wash clothes in cold water.  Although they are not as popular as regular detergents that use warm or hot water, they proved through their experimentation that the cold water detergents worked just as well when it comes to getting tough stains out of clothes and saved consumers money in both the price of the detergents and the money saved on energy costs.

Congratulations to both students on a job well done!
