Homer Duncan, Former Custodian, Passes

Homer Duncan, 94 of Portsmouth departed this life at SOMC Hospice to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, January 15, 2023. He was born January 13, 1929, to Wallace and Della Duncan of Portsmouth, Ohio.  He served his country during the Korean War as a Ham Radio Operator. After the war was over, he met Ruth (who also worked in the kitchen at Rubyville for several years) Hattion of New Boston. They fell in love and were married.

His beloved wife Ruth preceded him in death on January 19, 2013. Surviving them are their daughters, Penny, and her husband, David Light of Hilliard, Ohio, and Sharon, and her husband Ralph Lauderback, of Minford, Ohio; four grandchildren, David & Ashley Light, Amy Light, Jon Light, and Sarah Daniel all of Columbus, Ohio. His children also attended the Clay Local Schools.

Also preceding him in death were his brothers, George (Betty Jo) Duncan, Joe (Jane) Duncan, Ray (Doris) Duncan, Danny Duncan, and his sisters, Mary Lou (Ralph) Wise and Lola (Gary) Evans.

Surviving are brothers, Guy & Joyce Duncan, Terry & Patty Duncan; a sister-in-law, Joy Salcido, and many nieces and nephews.

Homer loved his family dearly. He always looked forward to the next Christmas. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and always telling stories about hunting and fishing with his old Buddy, Jack Newman, who also preceded him in death.

Homer worked at Williams Shoe Factory until it’s closing. He also worked at Parker & Hannifin in Waverly, was a janitor for Clay Local Schools, and worked for Wilcar and AAA providing for his family throughout the years.

Most important of all Homer accepted Christ as his Savior.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and William A. Baker Post No. 363.
