Thanks to the Clay Board of Education and the Clay administration, the Clay Local School District is expanding their 1:1 Chromebook project for the 2018-19 school year. Students in grades 6 through 12 will be issued a Chromebook to use at school as well as at home just like last year. New for this year, elementary students (grades K-5) will be assigned a Chromebook to use each day in their classrooms. K-5 Chromebooks will stay on-site in the elementary classrooms. With the addition of 1:1 in K-5, Clay is now 1:1 in all grades (K-12).

Clay continues to remember their district motto “The District that encourages the child to discover." Building on the success of last year's 1:1 Chromebook project in grades 6-12, Clay is expanding the program down into grades K-5. New Chromebooks are set up and ready to go. Students in grades K-5 will be assigned an individual Chromebook that will stay in their classroom. The Chromebooks will provide all the students in the district with the research and productivity tools they need to do their assignments (e.g., homework, readings, writings, projects, and assessments). The students will also have the opportunity to become more proficient with and to integrate 21st century, technology skills into their lives. In addition, this initiative will open the doors to a more personalized education by providing unlimited access to lessons, programs, readings, and textbooks. In the end, the Chromebooks will allow students to have more individualized learning opportunities and a chance to have technological tools they may not otherwise be able to afford.

“We were excited about the opportunity to put Chromebooks into the hands of our middle and high school students last year. This year we get to expand the access of 1:1 down to our elementary students,” commented Todd Warnock, Clay LSD superintendent. “It will assist us in promoting responsible digital citizenship, personal responsibility, student engagement, and college readiness. We have been dreaming of providing this opportunity to our students K-12 and staff for many years. It’s finally a reality thanks to the support from the Board of Education, the administration, the IT staff, and the teachers.”

To simplify registration and reduce paperwork, the Chromebook Parent/Student agreement has been merged into the Parent/Student Handbooks. New for the 2018-2019 school year, parents can get digital copies of the handbook and sign the handbook agreement online.

Parents will need to have completed and signed the Handbook Agreement before Chromebooks will be issued to students in grades 6-12 or assigned to students in grades K-5.
