Clay Band Toronto Trip

On April 26, 2006, the Clay Panther Band departed for Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada.  The first day, April 27, found the group touring Niagara Falls.  One of the highlights of this day was taking a ride aboard the boat, the
Maid of the Mist.  The boat takes sight-seeing groups past the American Falls and Bridal Veil falls and up into the base of the Horse Shoe shaped falls.  Although it was cold and wet, a great time was had by all.  Other activities here included going up in the Skylon Tower to see the Falls from a higher elevation, viewing the IMAX movie, Legends of the Falls, and shopping on the famous Clifton Hill Boulevard.  The group also saw the Whirlpools, Spanish Aero-car, Souvineer City, and the floral clock.

After several hours in Niagara Falls, the group departed for Toronto.  We had the opportunity to go to the CN Tower, the world's largest freestanding structure.  Some were even brave enough to stand on the glass floor 113 stories above the ground.  For dinner we enjoyed the fantastic view of the Blue Jays' outfield as we dined at Hard Rock Cafe in the Skydome.

On Friday, the band performed in the Festivals of Music-Toronto contest.  Clay received first place honors in its class and received the second highest overall score, regardless of band size, out of the eight bands that performed.  Miss Maggard is extremely proud of the Clay Band and all its accomplishments.  Without the hard work and dedication of each student, honors like this would not be achieved.  Thank you students!  You are all “absolutely phenomenal!”

After the contest, the band toured the Casa Loma, the Eaton Centre, and some of the downtown Toronto shops.  The evening took the band to Stage West for the dinner theater production of Forever Plaid.  Students and chaperones alike had a great time there.  Before the show started , several students shared stories from the trip.  Most of us laughed so hard that we cried.  The show was “absolutely phenomenal” but our students were even more phenomenal.

After a good night's rest, the students headed out for their last day in the beautiful city of Toronto.  The group started off with a trip to the Ontario Science Center.  While visiting the center, the group viewed the IMAX movie, Fighter Pilot.  Another memorable experience was a machine that could give a prediction of the student's appearance in future years.

That evening the group enjoyed dining at Medieval Times.  That included a very large meal and a tournament between the knights.  The meal was great!  The tournament was amazingly entertaining.  Our group was chosen to be  fans of the yellow knight.  Although he was not the best, we found the tournament to be very exciting.  Medieval Times was a great way to end our time in Canada.
