Dec. 29
The old adage goes something such as this:  "A win is a win."  A win is not always "pretty," yet sometimes it is considered to be "textbook."  Sometimes a win takes a total team effort or a little luck; sometimes a team is just better or an opponent falls apart and hands it to you. Sometimes it just takes more desire or more hustle than your opponent.  Every win is different.  However, a win is a win, and no win is probably bigger so far in this 2006-07 season than the Panthers' 48-44 win at Symmes Valley on Friday night.  The Panthers have now won three in a row to go to 3-0 in league play and to even their record at 3-3 on the season.  The JV also won 35-33 on Friday night to go to 3-2 on the season and to improve to 3-0 in SOC play.  The Panthers are back in action on Friday as they host the Western Indians.

There is a philosophy and/or saying about sports teams and their seasons:  There are actually three seasons within one season.  There is the whole sports season, there is the race for the conference title, and then there is the tournament run.  While the "whole" season for the boys' basketball team had not started well, "season two" started last night.  In fact, both teams started their "second season" with wins.  The varsity defeated the New Boston Tigers in the Tiger Den 54-44 to start conference play on the right foot. Monday night was a pretty successful night for the Panther basketball teams--they won five out of six contests.  The JV and varsity girls defeated Notre Dame at home.  The boys' freshmen team defeated Portsmouth.  The 8th grade girls' team and the eighth grade boys' team both defeated Notre Dame.

The JV girls won their contest 51-22 to win their first complete game of the season (Green had no JV team and Valley only played two quarters).  The varsity girls' basketball team won their contest 62-32 to improve to 3-0 and 2-0 in conference play. Kristen Adams had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Alyx Jackson 12 points, Mallory White had 4 points and 5 assists, and Sonja Neuendorf also had 4 points and pulled down 6 rebounds.  The Panthers have an important SOC contest on Thursday when they play host to the Tigers of New Boston who come into the contest with a 4-0 record on the season.

The freshmen boys won their first game of the season by 26 as they defeated the Portsmouth Trojans 47-21 on the Trojans' home floor.  They play at Minford on Thursday.

The eighth grade girls and the eighth grade boys both defeated Notre  Dame.  The Clay eighth grade boys defeated Notre Dame 45-39.  The seventh grade girls and the eighth grade girls play at New Boston on Thursday.

The only blemish to the five wins Monday night was that the seventh grade boys came up on the short end of a 14-38 decision at Notre Dame in their first contest of the season.  They play at New Boston on Thursday.

The girls varsity team got a good non-league win over the Valley Indians on Saturday evening.  They defeated their neighbors to the north 49-44 in a close contest.  The Panthers are now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in league play.  Kristen Adams had 14 points while Dani Summers had 11 points and 13 rebounds.  The JV team won their two quarters of play (19-6).  The Panthers will play Notre Dame on Monday night at home in their second league contest.  The contest will begin at 6PM with two full games being played.

The seventh grade played earlier in the day and came back in the fourth quarter to post a 19-16 victory over the visiting Eastern Eagles.  The team will not be in action again until Thursday when they travel to New Boston.

The girls' varsity basketball team pened the 2006-2007 season with a home game against the Green Bobcats, the only SOC team to defeat them the last two years.  The Panthers are the defending SOC I champions.  The Panthers defeated the Bobcasts 60-49 to begin the season at 1-0, 1-0.  The Panthers had big nights from Kristen Adams (14 points/10 rebounds), Cami Groves (16 points and 5 boards), & Dani Summers (doube digit scoring and 8 rebounds).  Green does not have a JV team so no JV contest was played.  The Panthers will play Valley on Saturday at 6PM (the JV will only play 2 quarters).

The junior high girls' 8th grade team began their season on Thursday at Green.  They won 27-13.  The seventh grade will play Saturday at home against Eastern and the eighth grade will be in action again on Monday.
