Vaccine Information for Next Year: 7th and 12th Grade Students
Students entering the 7th grade in the Fall of 2017 MUST receive one dose of Tdap vaccine, which is a tetanus, Diptheria, and pertussis booster.  In addition, all 7th-grade and 12th-grade students are required to be vaccinated for meningococcal disease (meningitis).

Robert "Bob" Piatt, Long-time Clay Panther, Passes


Robert Francis Piatt, age 72, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. He was born July 12, 1944, in Wheeling, WV to Thomas and Virginia (Duncan) Piatt. He was a 1963 graduate of Clay High School, was a member of the Clay Athletic Boosters, and honorably served his country in the Army achieving the rank of Sergeant E5. Robert worked as an Electrician and Millwright and was a member of Local Union 1090. He enjoyed golfing, going to car auctions and flea markets, UK basketball, serving for many years as an assistant coach for the Clay High School Golf Team, and watching his grandkids play in any sport.


Funeral arrangements are under the direction of D. W. Swick-Nelson Funeral Home in New Boston. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00-8:00 pm. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 am.

Christmas Programs 2016

Various Christmas programs (PK-12) were held in the district during the week of December 11, 2016.  The junior high and high school concert was held on Sunday (Dec. 11), the K-2 program was Tuesday (Dec. 13) evening, while the 3-6 program was conducted during the day on Wednesday (Dec. 14).  Thanks to Miss Maggard, to Mr. Wiget, and to all the individuals who helped with the programs.


Clay Refinances Bonds to Help Taxpayers







The Clay Local School District has participated in the refinancing of $4.8 million in outstanding bonds in an effort to "lock in a lower interest rate that will save local taxpayers a total of $545,000 in interest payments" over the next twenty years, according to Michael Burns of Robert W. Baird & Company.

Former Staff Member Passes


RUBYVILLE. Richard Harold "Sid" Leive, 85, of Rubyville, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at his residence.

Born December 8, 1930 in South Webster, a son of the late Harold E. and Minnie Louise (Potts) Leive, he was a retired math and science teacher for Clay Local Schools. Following his retirement he substituted and finished his teaching career with a total of 51 years of service. He was also an Air Force Veteran during the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol (Conkel) Leive on March 29, 2016.

He is survived by two sons, Terry (Nancy) Conkel of Wheelersburg, Richard (Angie) Leive of Dayton; a daughter, Lisa (Neil) Rhodes of Chillicothe; two grandchildren, Morgan (Devin) Frost and Brady Rhodes.

Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Rob McKinney officiating. Burial will be at Bennett Cemetery in Minford. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service on Sunday. Online condolences may be sent to
